Shawn’s new CD with mandolinist David Miller, is now available from Innova Recordings! “DESIRE FOR A STRAIGHT LINE” — all instrumental – is the usual PRESTER JOHN mixed bag of styles. Challenging yet accessible; virtuosic yet affable; smart and whimsical. All sixteen tracks offer something unique. Need some points of reference? J.S. Bach meets Frank Zappa; David Grisman and Tony Rice play Igor Stravinsky and Danny Elfman; Friday Night in San Francisco with a mandolin.

The digital release will be available from all the on-line retailers: iTunes, Amazon, etc. in July but the actual, physical disc is available directly from Shawn now. Only $12 (includes postage and handling, a bargain!).

Martin Grosswendt’s New CD to be released … SOON!

Martin’s Payday!, features classic acoustic blues interpretations from masters such as Blind Willie Johnson, Furry Lewis and Mississippi John Hurt, more recent numbers by the likes of Muddy Waters and J.B Lenoir, gems from Bobby Charles and Richard Thompson, plus four original songs and instrumentals.

Primarily, he plays his ’59 Gibson J-185, but I also does one song on electric, one song each on fretless and cello banjos, and a pair of Creole tunes from Southwest Louisiana on fiddle. The recording quality is nothing short of remarkable, thanks to the work of engineer Dave Correia of Celebration Sound. Martin’s told us that he’s “assured by reputable sources that the performances aren’t bad, either.”

Our program is geared to serve students of all levels – from the novice who’s dusted off her guitar after 15 years, to performers and educators seeking to hone their skills with the masters. While the majority of our students are adults, our program is open to focused high school students.

STUDENT CONCERT

Our student concert is one of the culminating events of the week. Participation is optional. Often, a whole class will peform together. Individuals are also encouraged to perform — eithermaterial they’ve been working on during the week, or other repertoire.

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK

Our venue is just minutes away from Acadia National Park. Students often take advantage of our mid-day break for a ride or stroll on its extensive networks of carriage trails. For those who do not have a car, the Island Explorer – a free shuttle – stops on campus taking you to all locations within the Park.

THE BAR HARBOR AREA

One of several towns on Mt. Desert Island, the town of Bar Harbor is 5 minutes from College of the Atlantic. In addition to varied cuisine and shops, the town boasts a variety of activities, inclouding whale-watching, sunset schooner tours of Frenchman’s Bay, kayaking, and even its own museum!
